Hey.

Adam here, and boy do I have a surprise for you today! So in my last couple of free gifts to you,

I targeted The “Technique” side to increasing your vertical, but as you may know… Jumping isn’t

just technique! Getting strong and more athletic plays an INSANE Role in how high you jump, as

well as how well you kick ass at your sport!

Strength needs to be full body. Meaning strong arms, core, and legs, and everything in between!

I always make the analogy that your body is like a three linked chain… If one of the links of the chain is

weak, then the chain will eventually break!

So it is very important to me that you get an understanding of what a proper weight lifting and core

program looks like, so I am giving you a one week training program, as well as a really good core

program that I use with my athletes!

You can download your workouts here: CLICK HERE FOR WORKOUT DOWNLOADS!

Enjoy, and let me know of any questions!

How Cool is it that I now have a Los Angeles Laker on my mailing list?

Darius Morris was taken by the LA Lakers in the second round of the NBA Draft last week

and I am so proud of him! Darius and I emailed back and forth some as well as chatted on

Facebook while he was playing basketball at Michigan and I just knew this guy had “it”!

One of the best basketball players in the world already, he was eager to improve and get better!

I wanted to write him a Congratulations, and say it is an absolute HONOR to have

Los Angeles Laker, Darius Morris on my mailing list with you, and I really hope everyone

learns from him.

No matter how good you are, strive to be better. Darius will go on to be a BIG Name in the NBA,

mark my words. I have had the ability to meet numerous NBA players thus far in my career as a trainer,

but have never met a kid quite like Darius.

His hunger and desire is unmatched. His work ethic is second to none, and his intelligence on and off

the court is world class! (He is on my mailing list isn’t he!) He will only IMPROVE and nothing will

stop him from success… That is his mentality.

So I wanted to just send out a Congratulations to Vertfreak mailing list member Darius Morris of the Los Angeles

Lakers, your story alone should be a lesson to the rest! One of the people on my

Mailing list worked his ass off and now is in the NBA, you can be next! (Hoping My Information Helped him!)

Let me add. Darius worked smart, and was a student of the game and his training. He learned and absorbed

all the information he could and put it to action! You can do this too!

If you are looking for a smart program to follow, that will give you the results you deserve, look no farther than the

Become a Freak V2 Program! It will be the perfect blueprint to follow if you have goals and a work ethic like Darius!

To Jump Higher you must increase three areas within your Strength:

Let’s dig into each one and discuss the WHY, the HOW, and your options to do so!

Strength

In order to jump higher you need to be STRONG, to determine your strength, I like to test

athletes over three areas:

Lower body

Core

Upper body

To test the lower body, an athlete must know how to properly squat correctly. If the athletes does

not, then their results will be skewed! Once an athlete has his/her form down, they need to find their

1 Rep Max! To find out your Lower Body relative strength, you will then devide your 1 Rep Max by

your current body weight.

1x Body weight is average

1.5x Body weight is good

2x body weight is STRONG

To get your lower body strength up, you need to be doing a few key lifts:

Squats (Obviously)

Deadlifts

Bulgarian Split Squats

Weighted Step Ups

These are just a few of TONS of exercises I use for lower body lifting, and have athletes use to increase their

vertical leap! I would recommend adding them to your workout, or better yet, get on a proven plan that will benefit you

more that anything like my: Become a Freak V2 System

Next the athlete must have a strong core. The core is used as your body’s “Highway” just like the main road near your house

it is used to transfer Energy. If your core is Strong (like a HUGE empty Well Paved Road) your energy can drive really fast (quick explosiveness)

but if your core is weak (like a single lane uphill, gravel road) your speed will not transfer fast, and eventually fizzle out!

So how to test to see if you have a highway! I use Hanging Leg Raises to determine strength within the core. If you can hang from the bar

but can’t raise your knees to above your belly button then your core is weak! If you can lift your knees up above your waist but can not

straighten your legs and lift your straight legged feet above your waist, then you have an average strength, if you can hold your straight legged feet

out in front of you for 10 second intervals, you have a strong core.

(Yes, this exercise also involves other muscles, but your core stability is a HUGE factor in determining which exercises you are capable of.)

In order to get your core strong, you need to be doing the right exercises. WEIGHTED core exercises are a MUST. If you aren’t doing weighted core

you are leaving a lot of development on the table for your core!

Add exercises like these to your core work:

Weighted Core Rotations, Weighted Sit Ups, Weighted Leg Raises, Medicine Ball Tosses, Medicine Ball Slams (Leave a comment if you need more info!)

Lastly, Upper body Strength is a MUST in jumping higher! Crazy right?

You need to be equally strong in your upper body, lower body, and core!

The reason being, is because your upper body explosiveness plays a HUGE role in your jumping ability, and overall athleticism. If you don’t believe me,

try and run and jump without using your arms!
To test your upper body strength, I like to use Pull Ups! In fact their is a direct correlation with Pull Up Counts, and vertical leap!

<3 Is pretty weak

4-9 Pretty Average

10-19 Above Average

20+ Strong

I personally have a best of 43 while in college! This is also when I had a 44.5 Standing Vertical Leap Measurement!

Lastly, I completely understand that jumping higher is tough to figure out! In order to jump higher, you need to have a plan, simple as that.

I am not going to say my program is the best program ever made, (though I think it is) but I will say that it is pretty damn good, covers all these areas

in full, and will give you the an AMAZING shot of succeeding with your dreams! If you want to have a day by day plan to accomplish every aspect

of jumping higher and becoming a FREAK athlete, give my Become a Freak V2 Program a shot, here is a link: Become a Freak V2

I look forward to working with you!

I know that headline sounds enticing, but it is true (Atleast according to my personal experiences, and case studies)!

I’m going to show you something that if you are not

currently doing, you are only running at about 75% of your total vertical jump Crazy Huh?

I noticed that I never really covered this area in the past, and it’s my fault! I overlooked it as being something

that I assumed people already knew, mainly because this stuff has been ingrained in my brain from my college

coaches!

The subject I am referring to is Dorsiflexion! Ever heard of it? It was recently brought to my attention that most athletes haven’t, and sadly enough this is costing you tons of valuable vertical jump, speed, and explosiveness, as well as knowing about proper dorsiflexion would have prevented alot of ankle sprains in the past!

Dorsiflexion is controlled by a neat muscle on the front side of your calve called the tibialis anterior. This honestly doesn’t mean crap to me really… in fact I googled the term to look smart! (Don’t tell anyone!)

What I can tell you though is by using dorsiflexion when you run, you will position yourself to be more powerful, as well as have quicker ground strikes! This means you will run faster and have more control doing it!

So if you are faster… and in control…. guess what? You Increase your Vertical Jump! A few inches higher as a matter a fact! Some simple dorsiflexion strengthening can be beneficial but in a lot of cases isn’t necessary! You just need to get used to walking, running, and jumping off of dorsiflexed ankles!

So without over thinking this goofy word… dorsiflexion… I want you to understand what it means entirely!

Think about pedaling a bicycle. when you do this motion, you will dorsiflex your feet to generate power throughout your legs! Running is the EXACT same! My college coach would refer to dorsiflexion as “Pointing your toes towards the sky” and unfortunately it wasn’t until half way through my sophomore year that I knew what the hell he was talking about… but once I did, and I began to implement dorsiflexion… That is when my jumping took off! I added a few inches to my vertical, and my high jump numbers went through the roof!

I could approach my jumps with so much more speed, and I felt in complete control! It was Awesome!

Here is a video of me High jumping with dorsiflexion! Notice the feet and how they remain parallel to the ground while I run on the balls of my feet!

As you can see, I am “riding a bike!”, my feet are churning, I have good explosive knee drive and I accelerate! Never SLOW DOWN! These are all keys

to proper jumping technique whether it be on the track, or on the basketball court!

TEST: I want you to stand up with your hand on your computer chair. I then want you to “cycle” your opposite foot while “pawing” at the ground

in a “running motion” without dorsiflexion. Now repeat the exercise with a dorsiflexed ankle! Notice the OBVIOUS difference?

Your foot speed, and strike rate with dorsiflexed ankles is SHOCKINGLY faster!

This will take some time to get used to, but my main recommendation is whenever you are warming up or working out, make sure all skips, sprints, and accelerations are done with dorsiflexed ankles! Overtime it will begin to come natural as you get used to the action, as well as strengthen that fancy muscle that causes dorsiflexion to take place!

Well, its been a long night and it’s time for bed! Post all of your questions below, and I’ll answer them in some detail! Also if you found this information useful, please do me a favor and “SHARE” this blog post by clicking on the little “Like” Button on the top Right of this post! I want to help as many people increase their vertical jump as possible!

Thanks so much, and keep flyin’

Whoa! Vertfreak101.com looks different right? This is my New Blog! I’m going to post all kind

of Random Awesomeness so I will Keep ya Informed! (P.S. Click the Share Links and Comment So I Can

Make Sure Everything Works!)
Anyways…

So as you may know by now, I spent some time at the Montell Watson Skills Academy this week

and wow, I learned a lot! This is awesome for the fact that I went in an expert and left a student!

During the camp, a Ganon Baker Certified Basketball Trainer named Damin Altizer who was pretty

impressive to watch led the athletes through ball handling drills. Damin teached based On The 3 D’s!

Desire—You can’t just “want to.” You’ve got to have a yearning, a craving, a burning desire to get better!

Dedication— Repetition. Repetition. Repetition. “Good players practice till they get it right, great players practice till they can’t get it wrong!”

Discipline—Be mistake driven, work so hard you force yourself to make mistakes; Don’t become discouraged become determined! Mistakes are simply learning tools!

I found this to be pretty awesome stuff.

Montell played in my Division in High School, and honestly he was harder to guard 1 on 1 than JJ Redick! Montell’s fundamentals and ball handling is something incredible to witness! He went on to play D-1 ball and dominate at his school, setting quite a few scoring records! On top of his awesome credentials, Montell is genuine, and just wants to help athletes succeed.

Combining these two coaches together was AWESOME! These guys put on one KILLER elite Academy that challenged the athletes to the fullest!

Some good stuff I picked up from this camp on the main subject of ball handling are:

Intensity- If you aren’t practicing properly with intensity, you aren’t getting the most out of your workout.

Work to FORCE yourself to make mistakes, then learn from it!

Your hands need warming up! Start with ball slaps, and learn to correctly perform doing drills before doing them!

Have a REASON why you work hard? What is your goal?

Hard work can and SHOULD be FUN!

I loved the fact that these coaches were not all “Cheers” and “You do know wrong if you are having fun”- They worked these kids HARD!

Have a PROGRAM set out that covers EVERY ASPECT of Ball Handling… (Defense Dribbling, Speed, Attack, Specific Moves, etc)

I really liked the fact they the coaches detailed Ball Handling in detail, as I agree that ball handling is 100% under rated when it comes to improving your game as a basketball player. If you can handle the ball, defender’s BACK OFF, and lower their aggression. They do this because THEY are afraid of YOU!

Talk about an amazing feeling! To have the defender backoff because they fear you are going to cross them over and embarrass them!

I recommend any serious basketball player get on a Ball Handling program if you aren’t already on one. The one that I have found to be the best

was just released a couple weeks ago, and I can’t brag on it enough! It’s by my friend Taylor Allan, and I think you will like what you see!

Enjoy!
